I was leery of the long line to check into Tory Burch's 2 p.m. show on Sunday, especially since there were no seat assignments. "Don't worry," a tall, coiffed publicist said. "You won't miss anything."

She was right: Tory Burch presented a looping runway show. The show repeated itself four times.

There were no seats, and guests sat on the floor around some low bleachers framing the runway.

Models came out in small groups, took their turn down the runway, disappeared into backstage. A few more sets of models came out, until all the looks were seen.

The models did the finale parade down the runway... and there was no designer bow. The lights dimmed, went black. The music started again. The first set of models returned.

This happened four times. After each time, some guests left, leaving front row spots open for others.

By the fourth showing, the room had thinned out so that anyone who wanted a front row view of the models could have it.

"I thought it would be nice to do a hybrid between a presentation and a show," Tory Burch said. "We used to do presentations, and I loved the idea of girls moving. I think the clothes look great when they move."

According to program notes, the collection was based on American sportswear meets English country dressing. There was a playful mixing of textures: a sparkly lamé pink skirt with a muted cashmere grey sweater and grey tights. Jewel-toned silk blouses tied in big bows at the neck and worn under tweedy blazers or loose overcoats. Eveningwear included wide trousers worn with swingy tunics with embroidered hems.

"It's how I dress," Burch said of the looks. "I'm a tomboy at heart but I have a feminine side. I love mixing a little bit of old with something high contrast."
