No one quite knows why Barbie and Ken, that iconic couple, split up. But then, who knows what really happens behind closed doors?

At Mattel's "Celebrating Ken" party at Christie's auction house on Sunday evening, models in Ken-like tuxedos, perfect hair and just a touch of foundation greeted guests.

Inside more Kens waited, outfitted by six CFDA menswear designers.

Yigal Azrouel, Robert Geller, Simon Spurr, Nicholas K, Billy Reid and Michael Bastian all dressed Ken for events such as "Concert Date" and "Picnic Date."

This isn't the first time the dolls have made an appearance at fashion week. Two years ago, Barbie had her own jam-packed all-star designer runway show at Bryant Park.

Ken's event was more of a cocktail party and presentation. Guests mingled and took photos with the Kens (the shirtless beach date Ken was a particularly popular choice).

Waiters passed around tiny doll-sized nibbles. The itty-bitty fish tacos, for example, were completely dwarfed by the shots of margaritas they were served with.

We pestered the Kens for gossip on the Barbie breakup, but they were vague.

"They were dating for 43 years," one of them said with a bit of shrug.

When asked what Ken had been up to, they said Ken had been dating. Who? It wasn't one of those Bratz, was it? No, no, they said. Was it Skipper? Oh no, definitely not, they said. Just, you know, no one special.

There was a frisson of tension at one point in the night. The official Barbie twitter (@BarbieStyle) checked into Christie's and began tweeting that she was at the event.

But those hoping for a rom-com style reunion were bound to be disappointed. It was just a cocktail party, a publicist said.
