Elva Ramirez: Jeremy Scott Spring 2011 collection

Jeremy Scott has a sense of humor.

New York's resident wild child has sent out models looking like the Flintstones and wearing dresses that come with their own hanger. So as Kanye West, Kelly Osbourne and one-time Prince acolyte Apollonia Kotero (yep, the one from "Purple Rain") settled into their front row seats at Milk Studios on Wednesday, people knew to expect something memorable.

The show's invitation, an intentionally low-tech page meant to evoke punk rock concert fliers, called the collection "Boudoir Bombshells." Classic punk rockers The Ramones provided the soundtrack; among "Blitzkrieg Bop" and "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker," careful listeners could also pick out snippets of X-Ray Spex.

Models, in curler-set hair and bright red lips, came out in sheer blouses and sweaters emblazoned with familiar phrases of consumerism: "Thank You for Shopping Here," "No Sale Is Ever Final," "Have A Nice Day Thank You." Male models wore skin-revealing chaps, which caused the audience to giggle as the men made their runway turns.

Party dresses included red sequined minis that looked like torn ticket stubs, a safety-pin dress and one black tight dress emblazoned with a skeleton that people will recognize from Halloween stores.

Mr. Scott's high-low mixes (punk/luxury, grocery story/runway, trash/art dichotomies) may be a giant wink, but they are also statements on the fashion market, where even something as conspicuously outsider as punk rock was created and commodified to sell objects, leading from the Sex Pistols to Hot Topic.
