Last night, Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey and publisher Valerie Salembier invited a small group of editors and buyers to preview a hand-picked roster of emerging accessories talent. On the second floor of Avery Fisher Hall, jewelry, shoe and hand bag designers set up their wares for an intimate meet-and-greet.

The program was billed as Ms. Bailey's attempt to shine the fashion week spotlight on accessories designers, who are often in shows but don't get the top billing or the press.

Jennifer Behr makes jeweled and feathered head pieces that are something in between a tiara and a headband. "It's a cross between millinery and jewelry, because everything is worn on the head," she said. All the pieces, such as bands covered in Swarovski crystals and feathers, are made by hand in New York. Ms. Behr says that she's limited to creating things in a one-inch by 17-inch form. "Being super-limited makes you very creative," she said. "Every season, it has to function, it has to be comfortable and it has to be new."

Fenton Fallon's Dana Lorenz describes her statement necklaces as mixed media works that incorporate objects, like tassles, that are commonly associated with interior design, not jewelry. "The collection is rooted in interiors in 'Auntie Mame,'" Ms. Lorenz explained. "This woman is very forward-thinking, eclectic, but she has an edge to her."

Sister act Phoebe and Annette Stephens are behind Anndra Neen, a fledgling jewelry line whose cage purse recently ended up in first lady Michelle Obama's hands. "It's sculptural," Annette Stephens said of the bronze and gold designs. "We wanted to make pieces that are wearable art, that are feminine and have a strength to them as well."
