Whitney Port

MTV's resident ingenue Whitney Port had a long day yesterday, beginning with her debut at the Bryant Park tents and ending with a party in Soho.

The "Whitney Eve" collection premiered in a group show along with labels Mara Hoffman and Nicholas K. The show had a late start, which caused a minor panic among guests and photographers when the show ran past 3 p.m., potentially thwarting plans.

Port's breezy, feminine collection is informed by a Los Angeles aesthetic, "The City" star said. "I really wanted to bring a level of sophistication along with a fun, cocktail sexy vibe," Port said at her after-party at downtown's Le Souk Harem. Short, flirty dresses were paired with figure-hugging jackets in shiny metallics for an uptown look redone in shrunken, flirty proportions.

A hard-to-miss camera was set up in the corner of the bar to catch Port as she mingled with her friends. Cameras also trailed Port throughout the design process. Viewers "will get to see the whole process all the way through, from showing my sketches to Kelly [Cutrone], to having everything sewn, sent to pattern makers, and watching everything funnel through until the fashion show."

But even MTV fame doesn't necessarily equal retail success- Port's former "The Hills" castmate Lauren Conrad closed her signature collection this past spring. Port admitted to some nervousness as she waited for response to trickle in. "It's really an opinion-based business and that's what so scary," she says. "You're putting yourself all out there."
