French jeweler Boucheron is hoping to expand its presence in the U.S. by offering a private boutique in New York.

The effort comes at a time when overall sales of luxury goods are sharply declining as consumers cut back on spending.

At the Boucheron flagship store in Paris, Chairman and CEO Jean-Christophe Bédos spoke about ramping up efforts to mine new customers in Manhattan despite an abysmal climate
