The jumpsuit can connote everything from children's clothing to workmen's uniforms and late-era disco styling. For several seasons now, designers -- especially those with audiences that skew young -- have offered variations on the jumpsuit.
Early creations, such as Cynthia Rowley's Fall 2004 jumpsuit, MaxMara's Spring 2006 one and Marc by Marc Jacobs' Fall 2006 look hung loose on the body.
This season's jumpsuits, however, are hewing closer to the body, and are taking on more intricate construction than previous billowy styles.
At Proenza Schouler, the jumpsuit was worked into a tight leather form. Iceberg's gathered look was also lean against the body. Derek Lam's evening jumpsuit was loose on the hips but also included a draped bodice that freshened the style.
Stella McCartney, who has included jumpsuits in her collections for the past several seasons, turned out one of her more sophisticated versions yet: a jumpsuit tuxedo. -- Elva Ramirez
